“Dallas Cowboys’ QB Dilemma: Trade Dak Prescott for High Draft Pick and Salary Relief, Pundit Suggests”
FRISCO – The idea of trading Dak Prescott, fueled by the notion that the Dallas Cowboys may view him as a good but not great quarterback unworthy of a $60 million annual salary, has been proposed by FS1’s Nick Wright.
Wright argues that, based on Prescott’s postseason performance, he may not be capable of carrying a team, especially at such a high cost.
While acknowledging the acceptability of this viewpoint, Wright suggests that if the Cowboys are leaning towards a contract extension for Prescott to alleviate his significant $59 million cap hit in 2024, they should explore trade options.
Wright proposes contacting teams like Washington (No. 2 pick), New England (No. 3 pick), or Atlanta (No. 8 pick) to gauge interest in becoming the team that pays Prescott.
The suggestion is to bid farewell to Prescott, despite his outstanding regular-season performance, and use the high draft pick acquired in return to select a promising quarterback like Jayden Daniels, Bo Nix, J.J. McCarthy, Michael Penix, Caleb Williams, Jordan Travis, or Drake Maye.
The appeal lies in the potential to secure a new quarterback at a fraction of Prescott’s cost, considering that the rookie’s entire four-year salary might total only $22 million, providing significant financial savings.
However, the proposal faces challenges, including the salary cap implications for the Cowboys and the question of whether another team, like Atlanta, would not also prefer a more cost-effective quarterback option, such as Caleb Williams.
