“Everton’s Transfer Regret: Gabriel Magalhaes’ Soaring Success at Arsenal Highlights Costly Missed Opportunity for Toffees”

Everton’s history of unsuccessful transfers is extensive, with numerous significant deals falling through due to financial constraints, alternative interests, or the rejection of potential future stars.

Notable names like Erling Haaland, Virgil van Dijk, and Eden

Hazard serve as painful reminders of missed opportunities, as they went on to thrive in the Premier League.

One recent disappointment in Everton’s transfer endeavors is

highlighted by the failure to secure Gabriel Magalhaes, a missed opportunity that remains among the club’s most frustrating setbacks.

The Brazilian defender, now excelling at Arsenal under Mikel Arteta, was reportedly close to joining Everton, as suggested by journalist Dominic King’s tweet in 2020.

However, Magalhaes ultimately chose Arsenal over Everton, favoring the Gunners’ well-structured project.

The consequences of this failed deal are evident in the divergent paths taken by the two clubs since then. Arsenal secured Magalhaes for just ยฃ27 million, and his value has since risen to around ยฃ68 million.

Meanwhile, Everton experienced managerial changes and a decline in performance, finding stability only under Sean Dyche’s current leadership.

Magalhaes has emerged as a defensive force for Arsenal, contributing significantly to their title race last season and maintaining an impressive performance this campaign.

His statistics showcase outstanding defensive attributes, including a 7.23 average rating, an 87% pass accuracy, 2.3 clearances, and 3.8 ball recoveries per game.

Notably, he holds the title of the Premier League’s highest-scoring defender since joining the league, a stark contrast to Everton’s struggles to find goals under Dyche’s management.

Journalist Jason Soutar aptly labeled Magalhaes a “monster,” emphasizing his pivotal role in a title-chasing team compared to Everton’s ongoing challenges.
