“Leeds United Pursues Contract Renewal with Wilfried Gnonto Amidst Surprise Confidence, Defying Earlier Transfer Speculation”

Leeds United expresses confidence in securing a new contract with forward Wilfried Gnonto, according to Lyall Thomas. Despite sitting fourth in the Championship table, Daniel Farke’s team is a few points away from the second automatic promotion spot, currently held by Southampton and Ipswich Town, despite winning their last three Championship matches.

Wilfried Gnonto, 20, has recorded one goal and one assist in 21 appearances in the second tier this season. While he contributed to six Premier League goals in 24 games last season, he has struggled to replicate that form in the current campaign. Despite ongoing speculation linking him with a departure from Elland Road, Leeds United is now reportedly optimistic about reaching a new contract agreement with the Italian forward.

This development comes as a surprise, considering previous reports suggesting Gnonto’s potential exit from the club. Although his existing contract runs until 2027, Leeds United aims to secure his commitment amidst increasing interest from other clubs. Despite limited starts this season, with only 16 of his 21 Championship appearances coming off the bench, Gnonto may benefit from more regular starting opportunities to regain his previous level of contribution.

Leeds United remains competitive in the promotion race and is likely to secure at least a playoff spot. The team is set to face Norwich City, Farke’s former side, in a home clash on Wednesday evening.
