Rangers’ Euro Squad Dilemma Troubles Philippe Clement; Clarifies Decision Behind Signing Only One Striker

Philippe Clement is displeased with the restriction of making only three changes to his Europa League squad despite a satisfactory transfer window.

The recent addition of Colombian winger Oscar Cortes, on loan from

Lens with a purchase option, marked the third acquisition following

Portuguese attacker Fabio Silva’s loan from Wolves and Ivorian midfielder Mohamed Diomande’s loan from Nordsjaelland.

Defenders Ridvan Yilmaz and Leon Balogun, initially excluded by former manager Michael Beale, have become crucial under Clement.

Players like Abdallah Sima, Kemar Roofe, Danilo, and Kieran Dowell are long-term injured but may recover for the later stages of the Europa League if Rangers progress.

Clement also mentioned the absence of Ben Davies, Sam Lammers’ loan to Utrecht, and

the potential loan move of Jose Cifuentes to Brazilian club Cruzeiro.

As Rangers gear up for their cinch Premiership game against Livingston, trailing

leaders Celtic by five points with a game in hand, Clement expressed dissatisfaction with the rule limiting squad changes.

Despite not aligning with the initial European list, he can only make three alterations now.

Addressing concerns about another striker for competition, Clement emphasized the

progress of Cyriel Dessers, Fabio Silva’s adaptation, and the expected return of Kemar.

He highlighted the team’s cautious approach to injuries and the promising presence

of players like Zak Lovelace, acknowledging the challenge of selecting a balanced squad.
