“Absurd circumstance”: Former Everton player becomes unrecognizable as new manager acknowledges transfer

Former Everton midfielder Tom Davies debuted a striking new appearance upon his much-anticipated return to the field.

Despite his absence since September 30, Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder expressed his unwavering interest in Davies, asserting he would have signed him during the summer transfer window had he been at the helm of the Blades at the time.

Davies, renowned for his memorable goal against Manchester City in January 2017, clinching Everton‘s Goal of the Season award, as well as accolades for Performance and Young Player of the Season, made history as Everton’s youngest captain under Marco Silva at just 20 years and 60 days old.

Amassing 179 appearances and scoring seven goals for Everton, Davies departed the club as a free agent last summer after declining a contract extension.

Signing a three-year deal with Sheffield United, Davies debuted for the Blades as a substitute in a match against Tottenham Hotspur on September 16.

However, his early stint with the club was marred by a freak thigh injury sustained during a training session, which sidelined him for an extended period.

Returning to action against Aston Villa, Davies, under the guidance of Chris Wilder in his second spell as manager, showcased a notably different appearance with a trimmed haircut.

Wilder expressed his admiration for Davies, emphasizing his Premier League experience, composure, and overall talent, despite his recent injury setback.

The manager reiterated his belief that Davies would have been a valuable addition to the squad had he been in charge earlier in the season, underscoring his optimism for Davies’ contributions to Sheffield United’s future success.
