Everton may potentially suffer a £7 million setback in the event of selling highly coveted defender Jarrad

Branthwaite, as per the Sunday Mirror. The newspaper revealed on February 11th, page 68, that Carlisle United

stipulated a sell-on clause during Branthwaite’s transfer to Everton in January 2020, with reports suggesting it could

amount to 10 percent of any future sale.

It is reported that Everton is seeking £70 million for their standout defender, with interest from Manchester United,

Tottenham Hotspur, and Real Madrid in the 21-year-old player. Should Everton succeed in selling him for the

specified amount, £7 million of the transfer fee will be allocated to Carlisle United due to the sell-on clause

established during his initial transfer.

Everton faces the specter of a Jarrad Branthwaite clause looming over them.

Since his return from a season-long loan at PSV Eindhoven last season, Branthwaite has been a formidable presence

under Sean Dyche’s management, forming a formidable partnership with James Tarkowski at the heart of Everton’s

defense.

Nevertheless, given Everton’s current financial constraints, compounded by the possibility of a 10-point deduction

due to a Profit and Sustainability breach, the club is in dire need of maximizing revenue from potential transfers in

the upcoming summer window.

While losing £7 million to Carlisle might not appear significant in isolation, every penny counts in Everton’s current

predicament.  Despite the potential financial setback for Everton due to the sell-on clause, the club will likely

appreciate the influx of funds, especially given the significant impact it could have on a League One team like

Carlisle.
