Everton: As a Goodison Park departure is suggested, Darren Bent berates Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
Darren Bent has voiced concerns about Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin, describing him as “rusty” and lacking confidence after going 18 games without scoring a goal.
Bent noted Calvert-Lewin’s missed chance in Everton’s recent loss to Manchester City, suggesting
it was indicative of his current form.
Speaking on talkSPORT, Bent highlighted Calvert-Lewin’s previous two successful seasons
compared to his current struggles, attributing injuries as a factor affecting his consistency.
When asked if a move away from Goodison Park could benefit Calvert-Lewin’s career,
Bent suggested it could, provided he stays fit and regains momentum.
Despite Calvert-Lewin’s past injury issues seemingly behind him, his lack of confidence is evident.
Manager Sean Dyche has continued to include him in the squad despite his goal drought since October.
However, Calvert-Lewin’s struggles extend beyond scoring, with few assists during this period.
Despite some unlucky moments, such as in the draw against Tottenham, Calvert-Lewin’s
performance against Manchester City raised doubts about his suitability for the team.
The absence of viable alternatives poses a challenge for Dyche, but hopes remain that Calvert-Lewin
will rediscover his form soon, with the potential for a goal to spark an improvement in his performances.
