Rangers news update: Clement discloses the day that REALLY matters, while Van Bronckhorst explains Besikta’s downfall.
Giovanni van Bronckhorst has opened up about his decision to decline an opportunity to return to management with Besiktas, citing a gut feeling about the club as the primary reason.
The Dutch coach, who was sacked by Rangersย in November 2022, has turned
down offers from other clubs since then.
Despite widespread reports suggesting that he rejected Besiktas due to complications regarding
his former assistant Jean-Paul van Gastel, van Bronckhorst has clarified that it was solely
his decision to decline the offer.
He hinted that he may not return to management, with his last role being at
Rangers, where he led the team to a Europa League Final before his dismissal.
Van Bronckhorst stated, “It’s true I had offers from a few clubs and one of them became public.
But there was no one team that made me feel like I wanted to start again.
I kept reading that the reason
I didn’t go was because I could not get the assistant manager I wanted.
But several coaches wanted to join me.
When a club is interested, you have to delve into everything – the state of the club, their
position, and the players, of course.
And ultimately, you arrive at a total picture of a club where you get the feeling that you
want to get involved in or not. The latter was the case with me.”
He emphasized that it wasn’t the right time for him to join a club and stated that he
is not actively seeking managerial positions.
However, he expressed openness to listen to offers from “nice clubs.”
Meanwhile, Rangers’ current boss Philippe Clement stated that he will not be hastily checking the Scottish Premiership table, regardless of the outcome against Ross County.
The team has a chance to level on points with league leaders Celtic and potentially go top
of the league, depending on the result against Ross County.
