Relegation of Everton would “open door” for move The player will withdraw from the Championship
Barcelona may have an opportunity to acquire Amadou Onana from Everton this summer if Everton faces relegation from the Premier League.
Marca suggests that such a scenario could prove lucrative for Barcelona.
Onana is reportedly seen as a key target to bolster Barcelona’s midfield, with the
club’s director of football, Deco, aiming to add a player similar to Yaya Toure to their squad.
However, financial constraints could pose a challenge for Barcelona, as they are reportedly unable to afford a deal exceeding €40 million.
Everton, on the other hand, values Onana at €60 million or more, particularly
considering they paid €35 million for him.
Nevertheless, Marca speculates that an unexpected opportunity could arise if Everton were
to face relegation at the end of the season.
With Everton currently in the bottom three due to their points deduction, there’s a belief that
relegation to the Championship could hasten Onana’s departure.
The newspaper asserts that it’s evident Onana wouldn’t want to compete in the
Championship, and he would likely push for a move elsewhere.
While Barcelona’s financial situation remains uncertain, they are reportedly interested
in Onana and may be banking on Everton’s potential relegation to facilitate a deal.
However, it’s unclear whether Barcelona would have the financial means or meet Financial
Fair Play requirements to pursue him, even in the event of Everton’s relegation.
