Report: Tottenham will now give up on chasing a Premier League player.
Football Insider reports that Tottenham Hotspur have decided to abandon their pursuit of Jarrad Branthwaite due to their reluctance to make a significant investment in a center-back during the upcoming summer transfer window.
Despite Branthwaite’s impressive performances for Everton this season, which have attracted attention from top clubs including Tottenham, Spurs are now pulling out of the race for the young defender.
Last week, The Daily Mail had suggested that Tottenham and Manchester United were leading the chase for Branthwaite, with Chelsea, Real Madrid, and Arsenal also expressing interest.
However, Football Insider reveals that Tottenham has made the decision not to pursue
Branthwaite due to their reluctance to spend big money on a defender.
Despite being expected to be one of the biggest spenders in the upcoming transfer window, Tottenham is focused on maintaining fiscal responsibility.
With players like Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, and Radu Dragusin already in their defensive ranks,
Spurs are not willing to allocate a significant portion of their budget to another center-back, especially given Branthwaite’s
expected high price tag.
Instead, if Tottenham does decide to sign a center-back next summer, it is likely to be a
young and promising talent in the £20m-£30m range. This decision reflects Tottenham’s strategy of balancing their
investment in new signings while also considering the development of existing players like Ashley Phillips, who
could potentially play a more prominent role in the first team next season.
