Everton: Fabrizio Romano provides an update on the signing of Amadou Onana while Arsenal takes a stand.
Arsenal is showing interest in Everton midfielder Amadou Onana, who has a “good chance”
of finishing a deal away from Goodison Park, according to Fabrizio Romano.
On Saturday, February 24, the Italian journalist said in his Daily Briefing that a number
of teams are still keen to recruit the Belgian midfield player this summer, with
the Gunners being one team that
is known to value him.
But Mikel Arteta’s team is also interested in Real Sociedad star Martin Zubimendi.
They haven’t decided which midfield player to target yet, and at this point in the season, no decision is anticipated.
“Onana is attracting interest and I think he has a good chance to move in the summer,” he wrote in his Daily Briefing.
Will Arsenal purchase Madou Onana from Everton this summer?
Onana’s future at Everton seems very certain, as interest in the Belgian
midfielder appears to be escalating every week leading up to the summer transfer window at Goodison Park.
The 22-year-old has performed well under Dyche’s tutelage, so it makes sense that teams will start to notice.
The summer could be the ideal time for the Toffees to cash in and move the international.
The Toffees may have to sell before they buy again at the end of the season due to the
uncertainty surrounding Everton’s ownership by 777 Partners and their appeal over their point punishment
for financial fair play violations. One of the most sellable assets is Onana.
Onana’s future at Goodison seems highly unlikely, especially if the Toffees fail to
avoid relegation to the Championship. It remains to be seen whether he ends up at Arsenal
at the beginning of the following season.
