Following 21 goalless games, a BBC pundit discusses Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s situation at Everton.
According to Stephen Kelly, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, an Everton forward, has to start netting more goals.
The forward hasn’t scored a goal since October and has only contributed one assist thus far this year, which came against Tottenham at the beginning of the month.
Calvert-Lewin has drawn a lot of criticism from both supporters and analysts after
playing 68 minutes in Saturday’s (24 February) 1-1 draw against Brighton and failing to score again.
“He provides more than just goals, which is the issue,” Kelly stated to Football Daily on February 25. “I am aware of that because to h
is running ability, he puts teams under pressure, but you need goals.
You need someone that’s going to score.
“They’re not conceding loads. [Jordan] Pickford is pulling off a lot of saves, defensively they’re a
bit more open, but if you don’t have someone that’s going to get you goals or looks like they’re going
to even be on the goal trail, then it’s going to be an issue.”
WhoScored reports that the forward is not playing at his best and is statistically the worst finisher in the Premier League this year.
Instead of being a classic poacher, Sean Dyche is asking the 26-year-old to play a
role that demands more of him. He needs to press, run, and create opportunities, but he isn’t doing any of those things either.
While some contend that Calvert-Lewin isn’t receiving the assistance he requires, others contend that he should exercise greater professional judgment.
Everton have only scored 28 goals so far this campaign and the fans are frustrated with the lack of chances that are being finished by the marksman. He has nine expected goals, as per FotMob, and
only three goals to his name, so none of the statistics speak positively of the Englishman.
