Following a furious tirade against Everton Premier League punishment, Jamie Carragher proven to be spot right.

The ruling brought a sense of vindication for Everton, as it resulted in their ascent from 17th to 15th place in the Premier League standings, placing them five points clear of the relegation zone.

Acknowledging their breach of the league’s profit and sustainability regulations

for the period spanning from 2019/20 to 2021/22, Everton disclosed losses totaling £124.5 million,

exceeding the permitted £105 million threshold.

In their appeal, Everton highlighted nine different factors, two of which

were upheld by a three-person appeal board. They argued that the original

commission imposing the 10-point penalty had made legal errors.

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher passionately discussed the case on

Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football program, expressing his belief that some points would be restored to Everton.

While Carragher’s prediction regarding the number of points reclaimed was inaccurate,

he was correct in his broader assessment. Everton, in a statement, expressed satisfaction

with the decision, deeming the initial penalty as “inappropriate.”

The Premier League, in its statement, affirmed satisfaction with the decision, asserting that the independent disciplinary process, as outlined in its rules and agreed upon by all clubs, was adhered to.

Despite the favorable outcome of the appeal, Everton and Nottingham

Forest could still face further sanctions for allegedly breaching profit and sustainability rules for the period spanning from 2020 to 2023.

These alleged offenses are currently under review by a separate independent commission.

Everton reiterated their commitment to cooperating with the Premier

League regarding ongoing proceedings related to the accounting period ending in June 2023, despite the positive outcome of the appeal.
