“Amadou Onana Commits to Everton Amidst Transfer Interest, Newcastle Faces Financial Constraints”

Everton’s midfielder Amadou Onana has reportedly reached a decision regarding his future amid interest from Newcastle United.

According to Belgian news outlet DH Les Sports, Onana has chosen to stay at Goodison Park, foregoing a transfer this month to contribute to Everton’s battle against relegation.

Newcastle had targeted the 22-year-old to strengthen their midfield, especially with concerns over Joelinton’s future following a significant injury and contractual uncertainties.

Manchester United and Arsenal have also shown interest in Onana, who joined Everton from Lille in 2022 for ยฃ33 million.

However, Everton faces financial challenges, having been charged twice for breaching Premier League profit and sustainability rules, resulting in a 10-point deduction and another pending punishment.

With a valuation of around ยฃ50 million for Onana, Everton may need to sell players to comply with Financial Fair Play regulations.

Newcastle, constrained by financial considerations, may not pursue a permanent move for Onana this January unless they sell a player first.

While players like Callum Wilson, Miguel Almiron, and Kieran Trippier have been linked

with moves away, The Telegraph suggests that Newcastle could explore loan deals with obligations to buy

at the end of the season.

Despite previous interest in Kalvin Phillips, Newcastle distanced themselves due to Manchester

City’s high loan fee demands. West Ham United eventually secured Phillips on loan, covering the loan

fee and the 28-year-old’s entire wages.

As the winter transfer window approaches its closure on Thursday, February 1, Newcastle

is not currently close to any signings.
