Denmark’s assistant national team coach, Morten Wieghorst, has expressed significant aspirations for Celtic midfielder Matt O’Riley.
The 23-year-old, who earned his first senior cap in October, has become a key figure in
Celtic’s midfield this season, attracting attention from La Liga powerhouse Atletico Madrid during the January transfer window.
Despite external interest, Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has firmly declared O’Riley not for sale,
emphasizing his importance to the team’s pursuit of a third consecutive Scottish Premiership title.
Wieghorst believes that O’Riley’s decision to stay at Celtic and continue his development with the reigning champions is the right move, highlighting the player’s ambition and impressive form.
The Danish coach stated, “O’Riley is also doing very well at Celtic, and he’s a very ambitious player.
A lot of talk about him moving, but (I’m) sure he will stay at Celtic.
He is happy there and playing the best football of his career, and we have big plans for Matt with Denmark.”
Having made 104 appearances for Celtic since joining from MK Dons two years ago, O’Riley has evolved into a key figure in the starting XI, showcasing his steady growth and commitment to the club.
