Examining in-depth: Everton’s terrible performance against Man City
Manchester City is set to face Everton in the Premier League‘s early kick-off on Saturday as they continue their pursuit of the title.
With an impressive run of eight consecutive wins and dropping points only once in their
last 11 games, Pep Guardiola’s side aims to secure another victory that could potentially propel them to
the top of the league table, surpassing Liverpool.
In contrast, Everton enters this fixture amidst a concerning stretch of form.
Despite initially distancing themselves from relegation threats after a controversial points
deduction, the team’s recent
performances have raised concerns once more.
With just one win in their last 10 matches across all competitions, including a narrow victory over
Crystal Palace in the FA Cup Third Round and their last Premier League win in December, Everton currently sits 18th in the league standings.
When examining the head-to-head record between Manchester City and Everton, the latter has
struggled, failing to secure a victory in their last 14 encounters.
Their last win against City dates back to 2016, with their last away victory at City’s ground occurring
in December 2010.
However, Everton did present a challenge for Guardiola’s side in their recent meeting in December, despite eventually losing 3-1.
Despite Everton’s commendable away record this season, ranking sixth in the league for points
earned on the road, their visit to the Etihad Stadium may prove challenging.
Manchester City remains undefeated at home this season, alongside Liverpool, with only three dropped points against Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur, and surprisingly, Crystal Palace.
Considering Manchester City’s offensive strength, including the return of Erling Haaland and
Kevin De Bruyne, it’s anticipated that Everton’s defense will struggle to contain them.
Thus, a favorable outcome for Manchester City seems likely.
