Rangers now face struggle with Roma to capture ‘phenomenal’ winger
Rangers are facing competition from AS Roma in their pursuit to sign Boca Juniors’ promising talent, Luca Langoni, ahead of the summer transfer window.
The Gers had initially targeted Langoni to bolster their winger options, especially with Abdallah Sima’s injury exacerbating their need for additional width.
Despite securing Colombian talent Oscar Cortes on loan from Lens, Rangers have continued to keep Langoni on their radar. Reports in January indicated Rangers’ interest in Langoni, with other clubs such as Fulham, Nice, and Sevilla also eyeing the player.
However, the January window closed without any deal materializing.
Now, with Roma entering the race for Langoni, the situation has intensified.
Boca Juniors are reportedly open to a sale if Roma formalizes their interest, seeing it as an opportunity to generate valuable funds.
While a battle with Roma might seem daunting, Rangers could offer Langoni a more consistent pathway to first-team action, which could sway his decision.
Primarily operating as a right winger, Langoni’s impressive record of 10 goals in 50 games for Boca Juniors highlights his potential.
Dubbed as ‘phenomenal’ and drawing comparisons to Manchester City’s Julian Alvarez, Langoni is viewed as a player with a bright future.
Rangers may still harbor hopes of securing Langoni and forming a South American
duo on the flanks with Cortes. However, Roma’s interest presents a significant obstacle in their pursuit of the talented winger.
