Kyle Walker’s reckless lunge at Brentford wind-up merchant reignites Neal Maupay’s animosity.
Kyle Walker received a yellow card during Manchester City‘s victory over Brentford, reigniting his ongoing conflict with Neal Maupay.
The altercation occurred late in the match when Walker complained to referee Jarred Gillett and fourth official Stuart Attwell, alleging that Maupay had directed verbal abuse at him.
The tension between the two players was evident, with Maupay engaging in a physical challenge with Walker shortly after entering the game.
Walker’s challenge resulted in a yellow card, leaving Maupay on the ground.
Unfortunately for Maupay, it was a forgettable night as he also committed a crucial error that led to Manchester City’s winning goal, scored by Erling Haaland.
Maupay has gained a reputation for being provocative, as seen in a
recent incident involving James Maddison. After scoring a goal against Tottenham, Maupay mimicked Maddison’s dart-throwing celebration, sparking a confrontation between the two players. Maddison later commented that Maupay hadn’t scored enough goals to warrant his own celebration, prompting Maupay to respond on social media.
Manchester City’s victory over Brentford on Tuesday was their second win against the
West London team in two weeks, allowing them to narrow the gap to leaders Liverpool.
Manager Pep Guardiola praised Erling Haaland, who scored the winning goal, despite having faced personal challenges recently, including the loss of his grandmother. Guardiola expressed his confidence in Haaland’s abilities and
acknowledged the importance of his performance against a resilient Brentford side, against whom Manchester City had struggled last season.
