Evan Fournier awaits trade outcome
Evan Fournier seizing the rare Knicks opportunity while he waits to find out the outcome of the trade
Evan Fournier naturally questioned whether he and his expiring contract might
be included in the deal when he first heard rumors on Saturday about the
Knicks trading for the Raptors—before all the details were made public.
Fournier, who is earning $18 million this season, was not included in the
trade that brought OG Anunoby, Precious Achiuwa, and
Malachi Flynn to the Knicks along with RJ Barrett and Immanuel Quickley.
Instead, the little-used veteran appeared in just his second game of the season with the
Knicks left shorthanded in Saturday night’s loss in Indiana.
“The issue is how I found out about the trade; I believe it only mentioned that RJ
was part of the trade package.” Naturally, you notice that and think, “Oh.”
So you check your phone and all that,” Fournier remarked following the match.
“I get a good night’s sleep. I don’t look at my phone to see if anything has changed or been traded.
I just pay attention to the here and now since that is what matters.
As he waits to be included in a trade as a salary filler, the 31-year-old Fournier played for the first time since
November 17 and scored 10 points on 3 of 10 shooting in 17 minutes.
“It’s a pleasure to play, but the game moves quickly. Playing a game after being on can never be simple.
