Rasmus Hojlund’s injury suffered in the win against Luton town has heightened Man Utd’s selection dilemma stemming from a lack of alternative strikers. Before the injury, Rasmus Hojlund scored in his previous six Premier League outing for Manchester United. The Danish celebrity had emerged as one of Erik ten Hag’s most significant acts.
Although the Red Devils’ season has been poor overall, a run of five victories in the FA Cup and Premier League has placed Erik ten Hag’s team back in the running to qualify for the Champions League.
After settling on his preferred starting lineup, Ten Hag has seen some erosion in recent weeks. Luke Shaw’s campaign has ended, and Lisandro Martinez suffered another injury that will keep him out until April. Rasmus Hojlund is the next important player to be ruled out of action. After becoming the youngest player to score in six straight Premier League games, the Danish striker had just found his rhythm. However, he is now in the treatment room with Martinez and Shaw.
Hojlund had to wait a few weeks for a run of games after joining United in the summer due to a back ailment, leaving Anthony Martial to fill in the forward position ineffectively.
After returning to full fitness, the goals came easily, but only in the Champions League. The 20-year-old scored five goals in six group stage games as United was eliminated. Although he still waited for his first Premier league goal which came on Boxing Day during the comeback victory over Aston Villa. He has now added six more Premier League goals and grown to be one of the team’s key players.
Rasmus Hojlund injury: When he is to return
Rasmus Hojlund’s injury mean he will miss the Manchester derby on March 3 and the match against Fulham due to a muscular injury, according to a statement released by United on Friday. Hojlund will be out for the next two to three weeks.
Ten Hag stated at his news conference prior to the Fulham game: “It’s a minor injury that will heal in two to three weeks. Playing at a high level of intensity is risky. Although the injury is not severe, he will need to wait for two or three weeks.”
Hojlund will also be unavailable for the FA Cup fifth-round match against Nottingham Forest; therefore, the earliest possible return date for him would be on March 9 at Old Trafford against Everton.
United did not require an injury in the present instance. They obviously need additional striker depth, and Hojlund’s absence will make that need much more apparent.
Who will be his replacement in the team?
Ten Hag’s side only boasts one other senior striker, Martial, but the Frenchman is presently recovering from an injury. He has also battled with form at Old Trafford for several seasons. The young player who spent the first part of the season on loan at Stevenage, Charlie McNeill, is the only other option when it comes to fit central forwards.
Antony is expected to return to playing on the wing as Marcus Rashford is expected to take up the central position. The England striker is undoubtedly more at ease and productive on the left flank than through the middle. Even he hasn’t exactly been at his best this season.
With Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho on either side, Bruno Fernandes might play the false nine role, but Rashford as a striker is the most likely option.
